The material cycle of my work begins in the city, often on a bicycle with an empty bucket.
Together with chefs in Rotterdam I collect residual streams such as eggshells, oyster shells and pistachio husks,— I drop off buckets in their kitchens and return once they are full. I also collaborate with Woodwave, a local furniture maker, who provides me with wood shavings and sawdust.
Beyond the city, I gather shells along the shore. At home I save every eggshell, and over time friends and family began contributing too.
This way of working is small-scale and local. It keeps me closely connected to the materials and to the people behind them. Fieldwork is not only about collection, but about collaboration, awareness, and giving waste a second life.
